"Chicago is perhaps the most segregated city in America, and 97% of the population of the Southern half of the city is African American. Our professors told us, don't walk through the black neighbourhoods to get to City Center, just take the bus .
Writing on the sleeve notes accompanying Eskimo Records latest dance compilation, Chinese expat Daniel Wang recalls how by ignoring his teachers' advice, he discovered magical underground house parties filled with old skool drag queens and DJs like Frankie Knuckles and its in that spirit that Paradisco 3000 is both compiled and presented.
Containing a mixed up set of anthems from 1985 -91, the CD's selection is classic old school house, with top dog producers Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles and Larry Heard all providing cuts for a mix that's both soulful, deep and acidic. Ironically, compilers Antal and All Out K both hail from Amsterdam's Paradiso club as opposed to Chicago, though their love and knowledge of classic house shines through all the way.
Paradisco 3000 Presents Chicago Boogie is out now on Eskimo Records.
