Chatting to Skrufff soon after he launched the wildly successful Hed Kandi series, DJ/ selector Mark Doyle explained his strategy for choosing tracks was to simply pick 12" mixes or club records that were neither too trendy nor too cheesy and two years on his philosophy clearly remains the same.
Featuring full length mixes from men-of-the-moment scenesters Scissor Sisters alongside Dino Lenny's Bucci Bag, Goldfrapp, Richard X and Junior Jack, Twisted Disco is a sterling snapshot of proper club records from the first half of 2004, highlighting how far electroclash continues to penetrate mainstream clubland.
Mark, a DJ since the earliest acid house days, also knows his retro stuff impeccably, meaning he's wisely snapped up remixed versions of all time classics like Jaydee's Plastic Dreams and Tin Tin Out's Strings for Yasmin, both tunes that have stood the test of time and will continue to do so.
Being effectively a 'greatest actual club hits' of England early 2004, the CD naturally has a few clunkers, but with each track provided in full unedited 12 mixes the few more cheesier tunes are easily skipped. And judging by Twisted Disco 2004, the new musical zeitgeist is electro-house. UK Club land will never be the same again.
