"People say electroclash is dead but it's only dead for the 500 people around the world who write these things, the ones obsessed with the next big thing. They say ''it's dead, who wants to see a bunch of freaks?' Well any freak in the world reading that will say 'I want to see a bunch of freaks'." (Larry Tee, Skrufff April 2004)
As Larry Tee knows better than anyone electroclash's much trumpeted death has always been over-exaggerated and three years since he first coined the term for his New York festival, the subsequent scene grows from strength to strength. Electroclash Volume 2 shows just why, featuring a broad selection of dance floor anthems of the last 12 months including Jamie Summer's seductively salacious Sex Fiend and Badd Inc's X-Treme Fashion.
Badd Inc is something of a house project for Larry, featuring his latest uber-flamboyant protégé Tobell Von Carter (who also hosts Larry's new post-Luxx New York weekly Rogue, which opened at Manhattan's Pyramid club, mid March). Camp, catchy and ridiculously infectious, the track sums up electroclash's freak-friendly musical ethos, combining humour, serious song-writing and pumping, high energy grooves designed for dancing.
Also featured is the Droyd's mix of Proper Filthy Nasty's excellent club anthem Fascination, a track as accessible as Benny Benassi's Satisfaction, which also started life as an electroclash favourite.
Electroclash Volume 2 is available over the web now and receives a full UK release in May.
