"I tend to steer clear of the trance word because it's a bit toxic. I'd still really describe our music as ambient techno, which for me implies trance."

Chatting to Skrufff recently, Steve Hillage had clearly thought at some length about the best label to describe System 7's always excellent, distinctively original music.

"We like house music too and we like to be in that spot where they all meet up," he said.

And throughout System 7's long, distinguished and highly fruitful career the best spot to truly taste their melange has always been the live arena, a place they've now finally turned to after a decade on the road. Recorded live at Toyko's best known nightspot the Liquid Room earlier this year, Live Transmissions includes all the System 7 favourite moments plus two unfamiliar new cuts, Gazed and Diffused (never before recorded) and Teotehuican (Pyramid of the Sun), previously only released on a Japan-only mix CD.

Available as an internet release only, Live Transmissions is aimed directly at fans rather than passing trade and hence represents System 7 at their undiluted, unfiltered, glorious best. Trance, but not as you know it.
