"The skills involved in being a decent techno DJ or making good techno are vastly superior to that of any trance DJ or anyone making trance or dance music. The skills are far more intense."
So says Dave Clarke in the latest issue of Mixmag, highlighting the fact yet again that whatever he says about electro or even Goth (Mixmag headlined him 'Goth-electro pioneer') his heart (and genuine ability) remain firmly centred in techno. And Way Of Life, the first single from his excellent new album Devil's Advocate, sums this fact up precisely, both in musical style and its title. Hard, fast and deliciously intense, the single is an unashamed slice of pure, unfiltered, take-no-prisoners techno, that's catchy, original and refreshingly futuristic (though in that early 90s fashion that Clarke helped pioneer).
Remixes come courtesy of DJ Sneak and Technasia though appropriately it's Clarke's original that remains the best As the sampled vocal so appropriately puts it:- 'Hey freak/ in the club/ here's your chance to dance/ let's go'.
