"The only thing I predetermine is that I play 4/4. The rest happens by accident."

While Germany's Black Forest region presently remains best known for its infamously creamy multi-layered gateaux, Fabric's newest DJ discovery Michael Mayer might well be about to change that with the recipe he appears to have discovered for playing melodic, listenable, interesting house.

Mixing vocals with verses, and choruses with hooks, he's impressively avoided any cheesecake pitfalls, instead mixing up a fresh, aromatic selection of mainly German musical ingredients that including Heiko Voss' electro-house vocal track I Think About You and Richard Davis' equally accessible Bring Me Closer.

"There has to be waves like a pop song, I love records that are structured, that have a beginning, middle/ end," he explains of the CDs track selection. "It's the same for any club night. I love to play songs that you can whistle on the way home."

Fabric 13 follows his approach exactly, and augers well for both Michael Mayer's future and the overall potential of song based, club friendly top quality house music. Release date is November 3.
