"I find it really difficult to write music when the sun's shining. I associate the summer with happy music such as reggae. I write all my music when it's raining and grey outside."

With global warming fast turning Britain into a sub-tropical, Caribbean style holiday paradise, Lee 'Metamatics' Norris is presumably thinking about flogging off his keyboards and opening a boarding house in sunny Devon, so MindMushingGit could end up being both a timely and appropriate swansong. Combining all three of his usually disparate production personas (Metamatics, Norken and Nacht Plank) the album combines his trademark synth and string Metamatic-y sounds with the four/ four house beats of Norken, resulting in a distinctly Detroit sounding album, that's both interesting, melodic and tuneful.

Lee, in fact, hails from the wilds of Cornwall (South West England) having quit the grim urban environment of his birthplace Manchester for a place in the (then usually windswept and gloomy) countryside. Still a through and through northerner (he retains both his accent and an abiding passion for soccer team Manchester City) he's also kept the stubbornness and single mindedness common to residents of the town, which is reflected through the singular music he showcases here.

MindMushingGit (presumably meaning 'brain confusing idiot'?) is a listenable, accomplished collection of good quality electronica that's great for rainy days and even for the odd sunny one- though probably only at sunset.
