With breakbeat producers being amongst the first British electronic music creators to start championing non house dance music in the 90s, it's unsurprising and appropriate that a definite convergence has occurred with new contender on the block electroclash and Proper Filthy Nasty's debut album Fascination deomonstrates the link explicitly. Because while the title track itself is a pure slice of (top quality) 80s style electro-pop, the rest of the album combines downtempo, almost early 90s Prodigy style grooves (Stitch Up) alongside pure breakbeat anthems like Future Burn and Cowfunk.

The main man behind the project is John Ross (aka Ronnie) who started out releasing records as The Light in 1994. Going on to forge a successful remix career under that name (with happy clients including Britney Spears and more recently Paul Oakenfold), he's also worked with BT and now looks poised for even greater things with Proper Filthy Nasty.

Fascination is out now on 10 Kilo Records.
