"It means I can pursue what I want to do without having to be bent too much out of shape by other forces."

Admitting that he loves being a cult figure on the sleevenotes accompanying his Greatest Hits compilation from 2001 (Modern Art) John Foxx remains an inspirational character three decades after launching his music career as Ultravox. A genuinely talented innovator and artist, the natural born Mancunian has long been revered as one a pioneer of electronic music and his new album Crash And Burn shows he's retained his singular talent.

Co-recorded with fellow Manchester producer Louis Gordon, the record combines Foxx's deadpan voice, slice of life vocals and razor sharp synth lines to create a surprisingly accessible pop style of electronica that will be immediately familiar to fans of Foxx's work. Stylistically, the album's heavy electro beats coupled with the song structure Foxx favours, means Crash And Burn is impressively contemporary, already attracting rave reviews from the likes of Adam Sky (the electroclash king formerly known as Adamski).

Standout tracks include Broken Furniture, a strange ominous tale of isolation and estrangement and title track Crash & Burn, a higher tempo techno tinged tune of similarly dark intent.
