Themed around the concept of dehumanisation that accompanies working in offices, Chris Korda's new single Man of the Future is deceptively named, being four radically different tracks titled Into The Night, Bones, Nothing and Sensitive Data.
Into The Night starts off reasonably predictably (given that it's a Gigolo release) being an italo-disco style workout, complete with Casio sounding keyboards and a male spoken word vocal edited with 80s style electro effects. Catchy and kitsch, it's a warm almost Devo style track that's both immediate, camp and catchy.
Bones, in contrast, explores a deeper, more ambient mood, ditching the vocals for what appear to be sampled sighs (a la Laurie Anderson). Experimental but melodic, it's the best of the four tracks on offer, though too downtempo for serious DJ spins.
Nothing on the flipside is even less DJ friendly, being an acoustic proper song that's closer to the ballads of Simon & Garfunkel than the electro-disco tunes Gigolo's usually associated with. Sensitive Data is likewise late night, its dark synth sound top line spinning out over an unexpected Hi Hat heart beat.
Chris (who's female not male) apparently spent more years in offices than she'd like to remember, though judging by this EP, it appears she wasn't wasting her time entirely.
