Obvious, derivative and firmly packaged in the box marked Stardust (Music Sounds Better Than You) and Modjo (Lady) Room 5's new single Make Luv is nevertheless an instantly enticing, melodically interesting pop song that instantly conjures up holidays, romances and, more specifically, holiday romances in Ibiza.
Produced by Junior Jack aka Vito Lecente (Room 5's another pseudonym) Make Luv is based on the early 80s disco ballad Get Down Saturday Night by Oliver Cheatham, and wisely, JJ managed to persuade the Detroit singer to rerecord his original vocals. Signed to major label crossover specialist Positiva, Make Luv is receiving maximum marketing support from the EMI imprint and is well poised to last well into the (Northern) summer of 2003.
Cheesy and processed, yes, but tasty and instantly more-ish in that way that Laughing Cow kind of way.
