Sydney's Wax Motif is ready to make his mark at Proller.
Music has always been at the forefront of what was important to Wax Motif. Growing up in the 90s meant he had a healthy appreciation of the styles of music that were shaping that decade, from the ever-evolving sounds of Trance to the ‘up yours’ attitude of Gangsta Rap.
However simply listening to music during his spare time, or dancing to the Top-40-styles that were so prevalent at house parties, didn’t satisfy him and so, at the age of 19, Wax Motif purchased his first set of turntables, and immediately began collecting copious amounts of music. Careful never to skew his commitment to one particular style, Wax Motif built up a repertoire of different styles with Baltimore Club, Baile Funk, Breakbeat, Hip Hop, Drum n Bass, Electro and Fidget House being his arsenal of choice. And it was this choice that ensured he would not be pigeon-holed like so many other DJs and became the defining inspiration for the DJ we see in him today.
In March 2007 Wax Motif decided it was time to make his mark. Inspired by the likes of DJ Z-Trip, 2ManyDJs, DJ Craze, the Scratch Perverts, and Funk Trust, Wax Motif sought to transcend the boundaries of style and genre, all the while striving to make each set as unique as possible.
Now a radio presenter for Frequency on Sydney's infamous community radio station, FBi 94.5 FM and also the official tour DJ for groundbreaking hip-hop crossover artist, Snob Scrilla, Wax Motif has no plans of stopping having already supported international artists such as Stanton Warriors, Sinden, Radioclit, A-trak, Kid Sister, Pase Rock, Tittsworth, The Autobots, Lady Waks, Sam Sparro, Stupid Fresh, A-Skillz, Ctrl-Z, Surkin, Fred Falke as well as a host of others.
Wax’s original production work has also just started to blossom, gaining support from artists such as Chew Fu Phat (Brooklyn Zoo Records), Nic Sarno (ESP records), Act Yo Age and Ajax (Sweat It Out). Watch out for his upcoming releases as well as his new side project with Snob Scrilla and Oklahoma Kid called Fake ID’s.
Wax Motif plays Proller Lounge Bar on Friday 13th November
