Mynse AKA DJ Akouo
Mynse AKA DJ Akouo
Tasmanian producer and DJ Akouo is set to launch his debut beats compilation style album 'Outwit the Muscle' Wednesday December 3.

DJ 'Akouo (pronounced: 'Ak-you-oh')' (Ryan Farrington) began his musical career as an amateur lead guitarist in local bands around Launceston throughout the late 90s until he began DJing in early 2003, spinning underground US and Australian hip hop at local house parties.

In 2004, the then 19 year old beat maker/MC/DJ, joined fellow Launceston MCs Azrael and Ethics to form the live hip hop outfit 'Altrueism' in which he performed as an MC under the moniker 'Mynse'. Throughout 2005, the three toured and performed along side the likes of Bliss n Eso, Phrase, Heads of State, Tom Thum (Tommy Illfigga), among others, and produced songs based on politics, honest living and social conditions.

After releasing a short run of demos and appearing on Alleyway Crawlerz Mixtapes (Volumes 1 & 2), the group continued to perform shows locally until the beginning 2006, after which the members broke away to persue other passions. But Ryan didn't stop, and still going under the MC moniker 'Mynse', he immediately started work on his solo street release titled 'The Mynstrual Cycle', which he produced entirely himself. The album was released and distributed independently through his newly formed production label 'Altrueistic Recordings' in February 2007. Mynse followed the release up with a string of live performances around Tasmania and Victoria alongside acts such as Pegz, Funkoars, Vents, Bias B, Muph & Plutonic, and Bigfoot, solidifying his name as one of Tassie's hardest working hip hop acts in 2007.

In 2008, aside from performing underground DJ sets alongside acts like The Tongue, Diafrix, Reason, Ciecmate, Elf Tranzporter, Wasabi and running his own record store titled Loose Change Records, Ryan has put down the microphone for a minute and is tucked away in the lab, solely focusing on production and live DJ sets. Now as 2008 draws to a close Ryan is set to unleash his debut beats compilation style album 'Outwit the Muscle'.

Catch the launch of Outwit the Muscle at Hobart's Republic Bar on Wednesday December 3 from 9pm.
