Alexander Robotnik - The Disco-tech of Alexander Robotnik (Yellow Prod)
"The compilation obviously pays a tribute to the so-called Italo-Disco, romantic music par excellence, including its negative aspects. I intentionally chose to combine such classics as 'Lectric Works and Charlie with the Bangkok Impact, that somehow recall that music."
21 years after he helped kick-start the musical genre that's nowadays known as italo-disco, Alexander Robotnik (aka Maurizio Dami) returns, with an highly impressive mix CD that joins the dots between italo-disco and electroclash. Visiting landmark releases from the likes of Yello, Visage, Tom Tom Club and John Foxx the CD also includes fantastic recent electroclash gems from the likes of FPU, Bangkok Impact and Miss Kittin and The Hacker, all mixed together in high energy, DJ style full effect.
"My selection wishes to highlight the continuity of feelings and intentions that links up artists from the 80s with artists from today's electronic music scene, rather than demonstrating how this latter scene originated twenty years ago, which is only partly true," he says.
"After all, what could be more legitimate that bringing together Tiga and New Order or The Hacker and John Foxx, on this album today."
Packed with great tunes you'll recognise and ones you probably won't (but will like), 'The Disco-Tech of . . .' is one of the best electroclash-style mix CDs of the last 12 months. Release date in May 24.
