Martini Bros - Love The Machines (Poker Flat Recordings)
Despite being two DJs from Berlin and despite naming their new album in apparent homage to pure electronic music, Martini Bros' new album Love The Machines is a fantastically varied record that ranges from cutting edge electro-disco (Love The Machines) to Led Zeppelin style guitar driven charm (House of Malabar).
While in between (literally and figuratively- Love The Machine opens the album and 'House of Malabar' closes it) DJ Cle and Mike Vamp cover a vast ranges of musical bases on a record that genuinely fits the term 'eclectic'. However, what really distinguishes it, and makes it stand head and shoulders above the pack, is the sheer quality of the song-writing on display.
She's Heavy Metal rocks and rolls with poignant lyrics and thrashing electro-disco-tastic intent while Traveller is a punk-funk anthem reminiscent of Gang Of Four at their best. Smile in contrast, is a guitar based 60s style ramble into psychedelia, a ballad that's also remarkably catching and accomplished.
Love The Machines is out now on Pokerflat Recordings and is exceptional.
